There’s a faint scent if you smell it closely. I’ve been alternating this with my other daytime serum and haven’t experienced any irritation. After a few weeks of use, I’ve noticed a slight brightening effect. I removed one star due to the small size and higher price point. However, if there’s a discount available, I’d definitely consider repurchasing. Overall, I’m glad to have discovered another gentle and brightening serum.

This continued through early 2025 when I finally visited a dermatologist.I learned that apparently, there can be an incident that sets off the body to have a response and treat everything like it's under attack.I am 52, so I haven't been able to use anything on my face including any anti-aging lotions or serums since I was 38. Sigh. He did recommend a product line that miraculously worked with no issues or irritation. Since then, I've gotten bold now and again and tried a new product. Most of the time, after a few days, I start to feel the itch and know that if I don't stop using it, there is going to be an issue.I was curious about this serum because the dermatologist told me that the absolute best thing for anti-aging is vitamin C. The ingredients all look to be straightforward, so I decided to try it, with fingers crossed!I've been using this serum for 5 days in the morning and night, and I have no reaction! The ingredients are clearly pure and good. I like the way this feels on my face. It has a light citrus scent, and it soaks in quickly. I have been using 4-5 pumps to completely cover my face and my neck.I like this enough to say that I will continue to use this and buy it after I finish this bottle. My skin feels so soft, and it looks smooth and beautiful. Will it minimize any wrinkles that are starting to show? I don't know, but I love the way that it soaks in and how smooth my face feels, and no allergic reaction!

I've noticed that every time I've applied it, a few pimples form.I did notice a faint "hot dog water" smell that is common with ferulic acid containing products, but it disappears very quickly. Afterwards there is no noticeable scent.It feels very moisturizing. I haven't noticed any brightening effects or fading of some of my small sun damage spots, but my skintone does seem to be evening out a bit.Overall, this is a nice product but for its price, I expected better results.

The serum is milky and it's not sticky. It makes your skin feel very soft and hydrated. All that said, it's no magic bullet for dark spots. I have a lot of melasma/sun damage (I turned 60 this year), and while I've been impressed to see no darkening after switching to this product, I haven't noticed lightening of my pigmentation at all. My lighter stuff has not gotten darker and my skin seems just brighter and somehow has a healthy shine it didn't have before. It is fairly pricey at $65 currently, but if this brightening continues, I would continue to use this product. I do feel like with continued use, and careful hiding from the sun, it will fade as well. It's the heart of summer, and sun finds me if I walk through the house without sunscreen, I swear… my marks can get dark so quickly. It will be a better test in the winter… but for now, I'm super impressed.

It also contains kojic acid to even skin tone, although that's not something I require in a serum. It's noncomedogenic, cruelty-free and organic. It's dermatologically tested. Although this product is made in the USA, it's inspired by Japanese beauty traditions.After washing my face, I applied a small amount of serum and massaged it in. It's fragrance-free. It absorbed easily, and didn't irritate my sensitive skin at all. It didn't make my skin moisturized, though. It's part of a three-step skincare system by Iki Skincare. The first step is their Kirei cleanser. Then comes the NIHON antioxidant serum. Finally is the Ryo moisturizer. Since this is the only part of the set that I own, I followed the serum with my favorite moisturizing cream. Although I didn't see or feel any benefit from the serum yet, I know that it's working at fighting free radicals and the effects of pollution.This is an expensive face serum for a one ounce bottle. But it's an eco-friendly product that is designed for sensitive skin, as are all the products in Iki Skincare's line. If you're looking for a quality product that is Japanese-inspired, I recommend this serum.
